Worth noting is that SSuDEMOP has been able to accomplish the following with the support of donors and partners.




A coalition on Non-political Stakeholders was created and a stronger relationship among the non-political stakeholders established. This includes media, faith-based institutions, youth groups, women groups, academia and civil society. All in agreement that their participation in constitution making and election process, requires them to work together. SSuDEMOP is currently the convener of this group.

Having preliminary conversations with the security agencies to initiate joint efforts to protect the civic and political space. They were eager to work with the non-political stakeholders of safety of the civic and political space during the two processes (constitution making and Elections)

Continuous presence at the PFM Oversight Committee and raising issues of public concern.

Hosting Citizen’s Working Group on Public Finance Management Reform Process and continuous awareness creation to fellow civil society colleagues.

Contribution to review of pieces of legislation and making submissions that actually gets included in the legislation.

Reactivating, sessions of Women Technical Working Group on PFM and loop their contribution to inform advocacy efforts.

Developed list of basic commodities proposed for tax drop, exemption and waiver in the Financial Year 2023-2023

Established women-led coalitions at five (5) locations of Wau, Yambio, Yei, Torit and Juba.

Monitor the implementation of the Revitalize Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and provide recommendation.

Leading and facilitating a process of organizing nationwide women coalitions on Constitution making process in South Sudan starting from December 2023 and still ongoing

Initiated a coalition of non-political stakeholders which saw civil society, leaders from faith-based, persons with disabilities, women, youth and the media working together on issues relating to constitution and election processes in South Sudan.

Led different stakeholders in the reviews of various pieces of legislation and made submission. Through this process, stakeholder such that were ordinarily excluded from making oral submissions to National Constitution Amendment Committee (NCAC) and this included Persons with Disabilities and academia.

Facilitated an exposure trip for 8 young women from five (5) civil society organizations including SSuDEMOP to learn from experienced and renowned civil society activists, institutions and organization from Kenya regarding their experiences in constitution making.

Mentored three young women on policy analysis and writing.

Conducted a strategic convening meeting for influential women and women who hold influential positions in different institutions and sector to deliberate on strategic entry points for women in the constitution making process since 2021.

Established Citizen’s Working Group and Women Women Technical Working Group on Public Finance Management and Reform in 2021 after the pandemic and this has continued to link women voices to national processes around public finance management and reform process.

SSuDEMOP was invited and until today, represent civil society organizations in the Public Finance Management Reform Process at the level of the Oversight Committee and have continued to be a leading voice on linking citizens’ concerns to budget and taxation process in the country. Have developed several policy briefs on Public Finance Management related themes.

Hosted the Citizens’ Taskforce on Covid-19 which was a nation-wide citizen founded and citizen driven initiative founded by SSuDEMOP Secretary General in the face of the global pandemic. This initiative was able to mobilize South Sudanese and foreign nationals living in South Sudan and beyond to help save lives, stop spread of the virus and safeguard human rights.

SSuDEMOP in partnership with other institutions supported the parliamentary committee on Labor and Human Resource Development, ministry of Labor and Human Resource Development and the ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in printing copies of the South Sudan Labor Act 2017 and commenced the dissemination process with a launch.

From April 2016 to November 2016 facilitated a process of developing South Sudan National Women’s Strategy document. This was finally launched on 2nd December 2016. The document can be found online.

In January 2016, SSuDEMOP co-hosted with Isis-WICCE a ten day long first residence session of a one-year programme under the theme “Women Agency for Peace and Security.

SSuDEMOP and other Peace Implementation Monitoring Initiative (PIMI) members with the support from Democracy International trained and deployed 15 monitors in the former ten state to monitor the implementation of the signed peace agreement in 2015.

More over in 2016, SSuDEMOP reviewed Police Service Act 2009, National Audit Chamber Act 2011 and Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 in the former ACRSS with the support from Democracy International.

Facilitated a project funded by Rich Williamson Foundation under the title “Linking voices of women from conflict affected areas to National Dialogue and Peace processes in South Sudan”.

We partnered with PIMI members to Monitor and evaluate the status of the Implementation of Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (ARCSS) from April 2016 and currently continue to monitor the Revitalised Agreement on Resolution of conflict (R-ACRSS) signed in September 2018.

Successfully facilitated Women legislators who represent three states in the National Assembly to consult their constituencies on the current peace process of the conflict in South Sudan.

Create a platform for Concerned Citizens to discuss issues of national interest and share with the public through a Town Hall Meeting to give members of public an opportunity to contribute in national dialogue and decision-making. Policy brief from these Town Hall Meetings can be found on our website

Successfully established a platform (Civil Society Monthly Forum) for CSOs and activists to share ideas and think of more creative ways and strategies on how their work can be enhanced.

Conduct an assessment to understand xenophobia in South Sudan. Though we ran out of funding to finalize the report, the data is still valid.

Conducted an assessment to understand women’s participation in leadership and decision making in South Sudan and launched a report on the same. The report for this can be found on our website.

Establish Southern Sudan wide Civil Society Network with a secretariat based in Juba and state focal points in all the 10 states and five other selected locations that trained and deployed 184 domestic observers in November 2009 to observe the Voter Registration process and 750 domestic observers to observe the 2010 Sudan General Elections in all the 10 states of Southern Sudan.

Trained and deployed 20 specialized observers on conflict tracking and mapping

SSuDEMOP has become a forum through which civil society issues can be voiced and objectively articulated.

Trained and deployed 364 short term observers in November 2010 to observe the voter registration process for the 2011 Southern Sudan Referendum for self-determination, 2800 short term observers to observe the Referendum poll in South Sudan and Diaspora (Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda) and deployed 154 long term observers who carried out a survey and voter register audit in the 10 states of South Sudan.

Rebranding from SuDEMOP to SSuDEMOP on 27th February 2013 to suit a new dawn-South Sudan as a new nation.
